BRAIDWOOD, Ill. – A car collided with a utility pole, sending shockwaves through the Braidwood community. Emergency responders raced to the intersection of Kankakee Street and Illinois Route 129 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.Â
Witnesses reported a person being ejected from the vehicle, causing power outages in the community. Eyewitnesses on the scene recounted a flash near Braceville Road.
Residents are advised to steer clear of the area to allow emergency personnel to efficiently clear the scene and aid potential casualties. ComEd is currently working to restore power to affected residents.
Initially, a helicopter was put on standby to assist with rescue efforts, but it was later determined that its services would not be necessary and was stood down.
The fire departments are diligently working to control the aftermath, while the Grundy and Will County Sheriff’s Office have launched a thorough ground search, concerned about the possibility of multiple victims. They are combing the nearby area on foot.
No word on the condition of the driver of the vehicle.
