Bourbonnais, IL – The construction of the new Kankakee County Animal Control Facility at 134 Mooney Drive is nearing completion but faces a slight delay due to pending transformer installation, originally set to be operational this month.

Led by Wight & Company, the project expands the former Illinois Police + Fire Building, enhancing the capacity and conditions for animal control. Noteworthy features include 26 outdoor dog runs, three fenced-in play yards, and a secure garage for animal entry, aimed at improving both animal welfare and staff efficiency.

A delay caused by the need for a new electrical service by ComEd was anticipated, but local officials are focused on resolving this issue to open the facility promptly. This expansion is designed to meet the community’s current and future animal control needs, with additional landscaping and a dedicated staff area to support service operations.
