Boston, Massachusetts – Temperatures will tumble into the 30s by Sunday morning, setting up slick stretches on I-93 and I-90 as a cold front pushes light snow across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, dry and mild conditions hold through Friday with highs in the 40s statewide. A warming trend continues Saturday as temperatures climb into the 50s across eastern and central Massachusetts, including Boston, Worcester and Springfield.
The shift arrives Sunday when a cold front sweeps offshore and pulls colder air back into New England. Light snow is expected to develop during the day Sunday, with the best chance for brief coatings across higher terrain and interior sections of the state. Even minor accumulation could create slippery travel along I-95, Route 1 and portions of I-495, particularly on bridges and overpasses.
In Boston, snow showers may begin after sunrise Sunday and continue into the afternoon before tapering. Road temperatures will fall through the day, increasing the risk of icy patches by evening as readings settle back into the 30s. Communities including Lowell, Brockton and New Bedford could also see brief bursts of snow that reduce visibility during heavier showers.
Drivers should prepare for changing road conditions Sunday by reducing speed and allowing extra braking distance. Keep headlights on during snow and watch for slick on-ramps and elevated roadways.
Cooler air lingers into early next week, and any leftover moisture may refreeze Sunday night. Additional advisories could be issued if snow coverage becomes more widespread.
