BNSF Rail Yard Accident in Elwood Leaves Man with Critical Injuries

Elwood, IL – A 45-year-old man was severely injured early Wednesday after being run over by a train at the BNSF Rail Yard. The incident occurred around 2:57 a.m. near 26664 S Elwood International Port Road.

First responders arrived to find the man with both legs amputated. Authorities believe he was trespassing. Paramedics immediately provided lifesaving aid, including tourniquets, and transported him to Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet.

Elwood Fire and Rescue teams ensured the area was safe while providing critical medical support. As of the latest report, the man was expected to survive.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Elwood Police Department.
