Binghamton, N.Y. – Parts of upstate New York will sizzle this weekend, with heat indices pushing into the mid-90s across the Finger Lakes and Mohawk Valley by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Saturday will remain mostly dry and sunny thanks to high pressure, though isolated thunderstorms could sneak into the Finger Lakes region by late afternoon. Cities like Ithaca, Cortland, and Penn Yan could see pop-up showers between 3 and 6 p.m., but most areas will stay dry.

Sunday’s heat will ramp up significantly. Highs are expected to hit 93°F in Ithaca, 92°F in Elmira and Auburn, and 91°F in Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre. Combined with humidity, these temperatures will make outdoor conditions feel even hotter. Heat-sensitive groups are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and check on elderly neighbors.

Road crews and outdoor workers should take precautions, especially during peak afternoon hours. This marks the hottest stretch for many areas since early June and could test cooling systems.

The heat is expected to peak Sunday before moderating slightly next week. No official advisories are in effect yet, but more updates may be issued if humidity rises further.
