A three-day-old baby in Britain has died from COVID-19 complications, becoming the world’s youngest victim.
According to reports from Telegraph, Coolio Carl Justin Morgan was born with a low heart rate died just days later on May 5th.
Morgan’s mother had tested positive for the virus after giving birth, the coroner was told. The official cause of death was severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, or lack of oxygen to the brain, which was partly blamed on “maternal COVID-19.”
It’s not the first time there have been complications following a birth. A pregnant woman in Switzerland delivered a stillborn infant at 19 weeks after testing positive for the virus. The placenta remained COVID-19 positive for up to 24 hours following the birth.
Researchers continue to investigate mother to fetus transmission case across the globe associated with COVID-19.
