Aurora Man Arrested in Wilmington After Stolen Gun Found in Vehicle

Wilmington, IL – An Aurora man was arrested in Wilmington Monday night after police reportedly discovered a stolen firearm in his vehicle. Officers responded to a report of reckless driving around 7:30 p.m. on S. Water Street and located the suspect’s vehicle at a gas station.

Police identified the driver as Chad M. Gray of Aurora. Officers found a tan handgun, loaded with an 18-round magazine, between the seat and center console. The firearm had been reported stolen from Hazel Crest, Illinois.

According to authorities, Gray is a convicted felon with over 15 prior arrests. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and knowingly possessing a large-capacity ammunition device.

Gray remains in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Center awaiting his court date. Police continue to investigate and encourage anyone with information to contact them.
