Above-average temperatures and a continued risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected along much of the Atlantic Coast from August 5–9, creating a hot, humid pattern stretching from Florida into the Carolinas. While widespread washout conditions are not anticipated, repeated rounds of rainfall could interrupt outdoor plans and produce localized flooding in some communities.
According to the Climate Prediction Center’s 6–10 Day Outlook issued July 30, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and much of the Southeast Atlantic coastline are favored to experience above-normal temperatures through the period. The precipitation outlook also favors above-normal rainfall, particularly across Florida and portions of the Southeast coast, supporting a more active pattern with frequent afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Cities including Jacksonville, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina, are expected to see highs climbing above seasonal averages while humid air fuels daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Coastal communities from Miami and West Palm Beach north through Savannah, Myrtle Beach, and Wilmington could experience brief periods of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and isolated street flooding during stronger storms.
Beachgoers and boaters should remain alert for rapidly changing weather, especially during the afternoon when thunderstorms are most likely to develop. Heavy downpours may temporarily reduce visibility on major highways including Interstate 95, while lightning could delay outdoor events and recreational activities.
The overall pattern favors continued warmth through August 9, with periodic rainfall helping prevent prolonged stretches of extreme heat. Additional outlooks from the National Weather Service will provide greater detail on the timing and coverage of daily thunderstorms as the period approaches.
