Winnipeg, MB – A Winnipeg man is in custody following his arrest in connection to several deliberate fires. Officers arrested the 43-year-old suspect around midnight in the 600 block of Sheppard Street.
The suspect, identified as Tyler Eugene Nyman, was reportedly found hiding in the rear lane of a business. Officers seized a lighter from him. Winnipeg Police later learned he was allegedly involved in three fires since August.
According to the Major Crimes Unit, Nyman lit a trailer fire on August 20, causing $28,000 in damage to a business and nearby property. He allegedly set another fire on September 21 in a garbage bin on McPhillips Street, causing $500 in damage. On September 30, Nyman allegedly set scrap wood on fire, causing $1,000 in damage behind a grocery store.
Nyman faces multiple charges, including four counts of arson, four counts of possessing incendiary devices, and eight counts of failing to comply with a release order. He remains in custody while investigations continue. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
