Western Springs, IL – A brazen carjacking occurred in Western Springs early Sunday morning, leaving residents on edge. Around 6:05 a.m., a victim withdrawing cash at an ATM on Wolf Road was ambushed by five suspects who arrived in a dark-colored SUV. The suspects blocked the victim’s vehicle before exiting their own. At least three of the suspects were armed with handguns.
The attackers demanded the victim’s cellphone and the cash he had just withdrawn. While two suspects commandeered the victim’s vehicle, the remaining three fled in their SUV. Fortunately, the victim was not physically harmed.
According to the Western Springs Police Department (WSPD), the victim’s cellphone was promptly recovered nearby. Within an hour, the stolen vehicle was found in Chicago, where it is currently being processed for evidence. The WSPD continues to investigate the case.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant, particularly when using ATM drive-throughs and parking lots. If you notice suspicious activity, do not confront anyone; instead, immediately call 9-1-1. Police are asking for any information related to the suspects or the vehicles involved.
