Mount Ida, AR – A Mount Ida man has been arrested after authorities allegedly uncovered human remains near his home, prompting a murder investigation by state police.
According to the Arkansas State Police, Special Agents with the Criminal Investigation Division arrested Billy Waldon, 53, on Saturday in connection with a suspected homicide. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office had requested assistance earlier that day while pursuing a missing person case.
Authorities said investigators arrived at Waldon’s property and allegedly discovered evidence of foul play. Human remains were reportedly found during the search, leading to Waldon’s arrest.
Waldon has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Abuse of a Corpse, Kidnapping, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Refusal to Submit to Arrest, and Fleeing, according to the Arkansas State Police. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
The remains have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification and to determine the official cause of death.
