Flagstaff, AZ — Residents of Coconino and Yavapai counties should prepare for increasing thunderstorms throughout the day, especially in the southern parts of both counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) Flagstaff reported that areas along the I-17 corridor are currently seeing rain, with further storm activity expected to spread as the day warms.
According to the NWS, northern and northeastern areas of the Flagstaff-Payson region may see less storm activity, but rain coverage will likely grow across other areas. Southern sections will experience the brunt of the thunderstorms, which may bring lightning, heavy rain, and possible localized flooding.
For those with outdoor plans, the NWS advises checking the forecast frequently and ensuring access to reliable weather alerts. Residents are also urged to seek shelter when hearing thunder or seeing lightning. These precautions are especially important as storms will intensify throughout the day.
