Antioch, IL – A 35-year-old man from Spring Grove, IL, is in critical condition after his motorcycle collided with a garbage truck in unincorporated Antioch early Friday morning.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Grass Lake Road, just east of the Grass Lake Bridge, where a 2017 Harley-Davidson collided with a 2019 Mack garbage truck. The truck, driven by a 46-year-old man from Ingleside, was slowing down to make a left turn into a parking lot when the motorcycle, traveling eastbound behind it, attempted to pass the truck on the left side.

The collision occurred as the motorcycle struck the rear of the garbage truck. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was found unresponsive and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported by medical personnel to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.

The driver of the garbage truck was unharmed and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Initial reports suggest that the speed of the motorcycle may have been a contributing factor to the crash.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is continuing to look into the incident.
