Detroit, Michigan – Temperatures hovering near freezing early Sunday will drop sharply again tonight, setting up a hard freeze that could damage plumbing, kill plants, and create slick travel conditions into late Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Frost Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Sunday, with temperatures near 32 degrees already producing frost across southeast Michigan. A more significant Freeze Warning follows from 11 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday, when lows are expected to fall into the mid-20s.

Cities including Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, and Monroe will see overnight lows between 24 and 28 degrees by early Monday. Major roadways such as I-75, I-94, and I-96 may develop patchy frost on bridges and overpasses between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., increasing the risk of slick spots during the commute.

Daytime highs will remain well below normal, staying in the 40s Sunday and Monday. Scattered showers may develop Sunday afternoon, with graupel or melting snowflakes mixing in at times, especially north of I-69.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and use caution on elevated roadways early Monday. Warmer conditions are expected by midweek, but additional cold mornings remain possible.
