Amarillo, TX – An intense heat wave continues to grip the Texas Panhandle, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits from Friday through the weekend. Amarillo, already enduring seven consecutive days of 100-degree weather, is on track to hit 100 degrees again on Friday, making it the eighth consecutive day at or above this threshold.
On Saturday, the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts temperatures to rise as high as 105 degrees in Amarillo, with other parts of the central and eastern Texas Panhandle potentially reaching even higher levels. In Collingsworth County, an Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect, emphasizing the seriousness of this weather event.
According to the NWS, if Amarillo reaches 100 degrees on Saturday, it will tie the record for the most consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures, a record set in 1998 and 1924. Residents are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
