New York – Damp pavement and scattered showers are already developing across the Capital Region, and drivers could see conditions worsen quickly through the afternoon as moisture lingers over Albany. Light rain may come and go, but roads stay slick, especially on I-87 and I-90 during peak travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, scattered showers continue today with a 30% chance before skies briefly improve Saturday. Rain returns late Saturday night with a 60% chance, then intensifies Sunday with a 90% likelihood of steady rainfall and totals reaching up to a quarter inch.

Albany and surrounding Rensselaer County will see a short break Saturday, with highs near 70°F and partial sunshine. That window closes quickly as clouds thicken late day. Rain develops after dark and becomes more widespread into Sunday, bringing wet roads and reduced visibility for much of the day.

By Sunday night, colder air pushes in. Temperatures fall to near 32°F, allowing lingering moisture to create patchy slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces. This is the kind of setup where brief “flash freezing” can catch drivers off guard early Monday.

Monday turns drier with some sunshine, but highs struggle in the mid-40s. The chill lingers into Monday night with lows in the upper 20s before a gradual warm-up begins Tuesday.

More updates are likely as rain and temperature swings evolve. Are roads already wet where you are this afternoon?
