Alabama Weather Alert: Wind Chills Near 0°F Expected Across Central Region Through Friday

Birmingham, AL – A bitter cold front will bring dangerously low wind chills to Central Alabama starting Wednesday night, with temperatures feeling as low as 0°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Friday for all of Central Alabama. Wind chill values will drop between 0°F and 15°F overnight, with actual lows ranging from 10°F to 25°F. Wind chill values will remain in the 20s during the day Thursdaybefore plunging again Thursday night.

The coldest conditions are expected in northern areas, with Hamilton seeing wind chills as low as 2°F, Jasper at 4°F, and Birmingham at 6°F. In southern parts of the state, Montgomery, Auburn, and Troy will experience wind chills between 13°F and 16°F.

Residents are urged to take precautions by protecting people, pets, plants, and pipes from freezing temperatures. Those most vulnerable to the cold should be checked on, as prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia.
