Huntsville, Alabama – Alabama’s spring skies won’t stay quiet for long. Thunderstorms return to the Huntsville area Saturday afternoon, potentially disrupting outdoor plans and travel before a streak of sunny days begins.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms are likely to hit Madison County between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, with a 90% chance of precipitation. Some of the storms could be strong, with gusts up to 25 mph. Travelers along U.S. Route 231 and other major roads should prepare for slick pavement and reduced visibility. Rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are expected.
Conditions will calm quickly Saturday night, paving the way for a dry and mostly sunny Sunday with highs near 70°F. Northwest winds will ease to 5 mph, making for ideal conditions for outdoor events and errands.
Spring sunshine will dominate the start of the workweek. Monday and Tuesday are both expected to be clear, with highs in the low-to-mid 70s and overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. No rain is expected until Wednesday evening, when a 50% chance of showers returns.
