Mobile, AL – A tornado watch remains in effect until 1 a.m. CST Wednesday for multiple counties across southern and central Alabama, as well as the Florida Panhandle, as severe storms threaten the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile and Birmingham, the watch includes Baldwin, Mobile, Butler, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Monroe, Wilcox, Autauga, Chilton, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, and Perry counties in Alabama. In Florida, Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties are under the same advisory.
Residents in cities such as Mobile, Montgomery, Pensacola, and Fort Walton Beach are urged to stay weather-aware as strong winds, heavy rain, and possible tornadoes develop overnight. Coastal waters, including Mobile Bay, Pensacola Bay, and areas up to 20 nautical miles offshore, are also under the watch.
The NWS advises residents to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, as conditions may rapidly deteriorate. Those in the affected areas should be prepared to seek shelter in a sturdy structure if warnings are issued.
Emergency management officials recommend securing outdoor objects, avoiding travel in severe conditions, and ensuring emergency kits are ready in case of power outages or storm damage.
The storm threat is expected to diminish after 1 a.m. as the system moves eastward. Updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
