JACKSON, OH – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized more than $20,000 in methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Scioto County on Sunday, leading to felony drug charges for an Akron man.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers pulled over a 2024 Kia Sorento with a Kentucky license plate on Route 823 shortly after noon on November 10. During the stop, troopers observed cocaine residue on the passenger seat, prompting a search. A pat-down revealed 200 grams of crystal methamphetamine in the driver’s pocket, valued at approximately $20,200.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old Antoine Phelps, faces charges of possession and trafficking of methamphetamine, both first-degree felonies. If convicted, Phelps could face up to 22 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.
Phelps was taken to Scioto County Jail following the arrest. The Ohio State Highway Patrol released a photo of the seized methamphetamine, available on its website.
This arrest is part of Ohio’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure road safety across the state.
