West Chicago, IL – A DuPage County judge has granted the state’s request to hold a West Chicago teenager, charged with two counts of first-degree murder, without pre-trial release. The defendant, Xavier Arevalo, 17, appeared in court Wednesday on charges of murdering two men and attempting armed robbery.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, officers responded to a report of a disturbance on November 9 at about 6:14 p.m. on the 700 block of W. Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a green Honda Civic with the driver’s side door open. Inside, they discovered Alejandro Rios and Antonio Delgado, both dead from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Police also found loaded firearms and several boxes of THC cartridges in the vehicle.

Authorities allege that Arevalo and Ivan Ramirez, 18, arranged to meet Rios and Delgado to buy over $1,000 worth of THC cartridges. During the meeting, Ramirez allegedly announced a robbery, and Arevalo reportedly fired multiple shots, killing both men. Arevalo was later taken into custody at a local hospital, where Ramirez, wounded by gunfire, remains hospitalized.

Both Arevalo and Ramirez face charges of first-degree murder and attempt armed robbery. Arevalo’s arraignment is set for December 9. Authorities emphasized that the charges are not proof of guilt, and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.
