Champaign, IL – A 13-year-old student from Champaign has been arrested following alleged threats made against three local middle schools via social media. Champaign Police were dispatched at 1:50 p.m. on August 19, 2024, to Edison Middle School after a report surfaced regarding a social media post containing threats directed at multiple schools in the area. The post reportedly mentioned the three schools by name, leading to an immediate investigation.
According to police, a School Resource Officer identified the student who made the post and reshared it online. Following an interview with the student and a parent, the teenager was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Disorderly Conduct.
Although an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Officers have been assigned to school zones to maintain a visible presence and ensure safety.
