Caribou, Maine – Rain and snow showers are creating slick spots across northern Maine this morning, with impacts expected through at least 2 p.m. Friday as temperatures struggle to reach the low 40s and visibility drops on rural roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered showers will continue through the day, with a mix of rain and wet snow most likely across northern communities including Presque Isle, Fort Kent, and Caribou during the morning hours. High temperatures will range from 38 to 47 degrees statewide, well below late-April norms.

Roads including U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 95 may see brief slushy patches early, especially in higher elevations and shaded areas. Bangor and Downeast locations will remain mainly rain, with highs closer to the upper 40s. By tonight, skies turn partly to mostly cloudy, and temperatures will fall sharply into the mid-20s north and near 30 degrees along the coast, raising the risk of patchy frost and icy spots by early Saturday.

Conditions improve this weekend, with dry weather and highs climbing into the 50s both Saturday and Sunday. Residents should use caution during the morning commute, dress for colder conditions, and watch for refreezing overnight.

Another update is expected later today as conditions evolve, but no additional advisories have been issued at this time
