Indianapolis, IN – Much of central Indiana is expected to experience dangerous heat Wednesday as temperatures in the 90s combine with high humidity, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory for a large portion of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday. Forecasters expect afternoon highs between 90 and 95 degrees, with humidity pushing heat index values to around 100 degrees, and as high as 102 degrees in some locations.

The advisory covers much of central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Muncie, Kokomo, Anderson, Noblesville, Lebanon, Winchester, and surrounding communities.

Meteorologists said the hottest conditions will develop around midday Wednesday and continue through the early evening. Similar weather is possible again on Thursday, and the advisory could be extended if conditions warrant.

The combination of heat and humidity increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, people with chronic health conditions, outdoor workers, and anyone without access to air conditioning.

The National Weather Service recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. Residents are also encouraged to check on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and pets.

Officials remind motorists and caregivers to never leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, where temperatures can rise to dangerous levels within minutes.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for additional heat headlines later this week if the hot and humid pattern persists.
