Fort Wayne, IN – A homicide investigation is underway after a man died following an early morning shooting in Fort Wayne.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded around 2:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, to the 500 block of East Rudisill Boulevard for reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police say officers immediately began lifesaving efforts until medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say detectives began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene shortly after the incident. The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Homicide Team, along with the Crime Scene Unit and Air Support Unit, were called in to assist with the investigation.

Officials have not released the identity of the victim, and no suspect information has been made public at this time.

The incident remains under active investigation, and police say additional details will be released as they become available.
