PLAINFIELD, Ill. – Motorists on I-55 faced unexpected delays Sunday morning as a major accident near the 126 exit prompted an emergency response.

At 6:20 a.m., a lane of NB I-55 was closed just before Weber Rd to accommodate the landing of a medical helicopter. Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to the accident with extrication procedures in progress.

Lifestar, the medical helicopter, necessitated a complete shutdown of I-55 SB starting from Weber Rd. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise caution in the area.
