ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Drivers in the Metro East should prepare for delays as lane closures are set to impact eastbound Interstate 64 over two upcoming weekends in St. Clair County.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, lane reductions will occur on eastbound I-64 between Illinois Route 157 and Illinois Route 159 as crews complete pavement work in the area.

The first closure period begins Friday at 9 p.m., when eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Officials said two lanes are expected to reopen by 7 a.m. Monday. A second round of closures is scheduled to begin Friday, May 1 at 9 p.m., with the same traffic pattern and reopening timeline by Monday morning.

Transportation officials warn that the lane reductions could lead to significant slowdowns, especially during peak weekend travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes if possible.
