Waterloo, IL – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is bringing back its K9 program, marking a renewed focus on public safety and law enforcement capabilities across the county.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, the announcement was made Sunday, outlining plans to reintroduce trained K9 units to assist in narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, search operations, and community engagement efforts. Officials said the move represents a proactive investment in strengthening safety measures and expanding resources available to deputies.

The department also announced the launch of a fundraising campaign to support the program’s return. A portion of proceeds from an upcoming Music Bingo event scheduled for May 8 will be directed toward funding the K9 initiative, along with other outreach efforts tied to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Neal Rohlfing said K9 units are a critical tool in modern policing, providing both operational support and opportunities to connect with the community. The department is encouraging residents to contribute through donations or by purchasing K9-themed merchandise, with proceeds going directly toward program costs.

As part of the announcement, officials introduced Deputy Lilly Reinhardt as the next K9 officer for Monroe County. The department said Reinhardt was selected for the role based on her professionalism and dedication, adding that she is expected to play a key role in the program’s success moving forward.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative is not only about law enforcement but also about strengthening ties with the community and enhancing public trust through proactive engagement.

Community members interested in supporting the program can participate in fundraising events or contribute directly through the sheriff’s office.
