Manteno, Illinois – The Manteno Village Board has passed a pivotal resolution with a 5-1 vote to approve the rezoning of a 112-acre land parcel on Spruce Street, previously the site of a Kmart distribution center. This decision, following the Manteno Planning Commission’s unanimous recommendation, clears the path for transforming the site into a lithium battery manufacturing plant.

The vote, which took place during the regular board meeting at the Manteno Elementary School Gymnasium on December 4, 2023, marks a significant shift in the area’s industrial zoning from light to heavy. The project, spearheaded by Gotion Battery, is set to revitalize the local industrial landscape and potentially boost the economy.
