Round Lake, IL – An Illinois man, initially found unconscious, reportedly lunged at a responding deputy with a meat cleaver, leading to fatal consequences.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s police it happened Wednesday around 4:05 p.m. when deputies responded to reports of a man bleeding at a home in the 34200 block of Barberry Court. Attempting to provide aid to the victim, a deputy found himself under sudden assault when the man regained consciousness and reportedly lunged at him with a meat cleaver. The deputy responded with deadly force, shooting the assailant.
Both the deputy and another person at the home at the time were treated for injuries sustained in the incident.
Despite immediate medical attention by the deputies and later by paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
