Lombard, IL — A quiet Tuesday evening took a dark turn in the Village of Lombard as a local man allegedly unleashed a barrage storm of racist insults and threats against two Muslim men, landing himself behind bars.

Larry York, 46, now faces two counts of Hate Crime, a Class 4 Felony, following the terrifying encounter on October 17, 2023, at the West Point Apartment Complex.

According to police reports, the malicious tirade filled with racial slurs and threats of violence, capsulated with threats to shoot both men. DuPage County officials acted swiftly, with Judge George Ford denying York pre-trial release.  York was reportedly only at the complex to meet a friend at the time the incident occurred.  He was arrested Wednesday at a Lombard bar without incident.

“Hate crimes have no place in a civilized society,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “The allegations against Mr. York are extremely disturbing and in DuPage County we have no tolerance whatsoever for such vitriolic actions, as alleged in this case.

York now awaits his arraignment November 2, 2023, under Judge Michael Reidy’s scrutiny.
