Round Lake Beach, IL – Following a prompt response to a blaze at a historic movie theater, authorities have detained two individuals on charges of arson. The former Regal Cinema building in Round Lake Beach became the scene of a significant investigation after firefighters extinguished a fire that severely damaged the property’s interior on Tuesday.

According to the Round Lake Beach Police Department, investigation post-fire revealed that the act was intentional. Lake Villa residents David M. Dolan, 19, and Anthony P. Shields, 20, are now facing Class 2 felony arson charges. The police located the suspects the following day, reportedly uncovering incriminating evidence at their homes. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charges, and the suspects have made an initial appearance in Lake County Circuit Court, where Judge Raymond D. Collins set their bond.

Ongoing investigations by the Round Lake Beach Police, with assistance from the Illinois State Fire Marshal, aim to bring further clarity to the incident.
