Kankakee, Illinois – The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the formation of a Civic Leaders Program, designed to engage high school students in local governance and justice issues.

According to State’s Attorney Jim Rowe, the program aims to recruit student ambassadors from every high school in the county. Participants will join the youth advisory board, contributing their perspectives on juvenile justice and teen issues. The initiative offers students a chance to develop leadership skills and gain exposure to various criminal justice professions.

Nominations have been solicited from local high schools, and the program also welcomes past members of the Youth Advisory Board who are still enrolled in school. The board meetings are scheduled to start on January 8, 2024, and will continue until April 22, 2024, convening on the second and fourth Monday of each month.

Chris Borchardt, Chief Of Community Division, expressed gratitude for the students’ contributions and invited inquiries for more information by emailing or calling  815-936-5829.
