Kankakee County, IL – A local destination is gaining international attention after being featured in a globally recognized travel publication, putting Kankakee County on the map for nature-based tourism.
According to Visit Kankakee County, Locavore Farm in Grant Park has been included in Frommer’s Comfort in the Wild: 100+ Idyllic Nature Destinations, No Roughing It Required, a travel guide highlighting unique destinations around the world. The book, released in 2025, showcases locations that offer immersive outdoor experiences combined with comfort and hospitality.
Officials say the recognition places Locavore Farm among a select group of destinations spanning continents, from African safaris to Arctic excursions. It is also one of only two locations in Illinois featured in the publication.
“This is global recognition, and that’s incredibly exciting for Kankakee County,” said Executive Director Angelina Gear. “To see a local destination featured alongside places around the world speaks to the level of experience Locavore has created.”
Locavore Farm has become known for its agritourism offerings, including chef-driven dining experiences, immersive farm events, and overnight stays designed to connect visitors with food, land, and community.
The recognition comes as the farm prepares for its seasonal events, including the return of weekly Thursday Harvest Hangs beginning May 21, followed by its “Dine on the Land” series starting June 20.
Local officials say the honor highlights the strength of Kankakee County’s growing tourism sector and its appeal to travelers seeking unique, nature-focused experiences.
