MANTENO, Ill. – Four vehicles were allegedly stolen from the Manteno Department of Public Works this past weekend, leaving local authorities perplexed and vigilant.
The audacity of the crime came to light when Wilmington police attempted to pull over one of the stolen trucks shortly after midnight on Monday, only for the driver to speed away. A short time later, two more of the village’s trucks then drove past the Manteno Police Department, defying officers’ efforts to stop them.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of one truck in rural Bourbonnais, showing signs of forced entry. An investigation by Manteno police in collaboration with the Tri-County auto task force culminated in the arrest of two Coal City residents: Zachary M. Palmer, 23, and Shannon L. Palmer, 42. Both face alleged charges of Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
