TAZEWELL, TN – Early Monday morning, Tazewell’s Taco Bell turned into an unexpected crime scene.
According to police reports it began at 1:00 am, when Tazewell officers raced to the North Broad Street location after reports of a man’s peculiar antics inside the eatery. Anxious employees outside peeked in, allegedly watching Jeremy Sulfridge of Tazewell behind the register, seemingly plotting a heist with free taco coupons and a safe key.
But the plot thickened – a search revealed not only a bit of marijuana but also, bizarrely, the men’s restroom soap dispenser tucked in Sulfridge’s pants.
Following a series of escape attempts and scuffles, including allegedly assaulting two deputies during an attempted sprint from custody, Sulfridge now faces a laundry list of charges including theft, attempted burglary, and even public intoxication.
