Bradley, Illinois – Illinois State Police have released video footage tied to an officer-involved shooting that left a 34-year-old Bradley man dead earlier this month, following a request for an independent investigation by local authorities.
According to Illinois State Police, the incident occurred around 12:46 p.m. on April 8 in the 600 block of Jonette Avenue in Bradley, located in Kankakee County near the Chicago metro region. Officers with the Bradley Police Department were responding to a well-being check involving a man reportedly making suicidal statements.
Police said they encountered Jose Orozco, 34, allegedly armed with a box cutter. Officers attempted to communicate with Orozco, but he allegedly advanced toward them and did not comply with commands to stop. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking Orozco.
Authorities said officers rendered medical aid at the scene until emergency responders arrived. Orozco was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Illinois State Police said the video was released after consultation with the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. Officials also confirmed that Orozco’s family was given the opportunity to view the footage prior to its public release.
State police are conducting a full investigation and will submit their findings to the State’s Attorney’s Office for review once completed. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.
