Covington, Georgia – A major employer in Newton County is preparing to shut down operations, with dozens of workers set to lose their jobs in the coming months.

According to a WARN notice filed with the State of Georgia, Bridgestone Golf, Inc. plans to permanently close its production facility at 15320 Industrial Park Blvd. NE in Covington, located about 35 miles east of Atlanta. The closure is expected to impact 84 employees working in production roles.

The company stated the first round of separations is scheduled for June 30, with additional layoffs anticipated on or around November 1. All affected workers are part of the production workforce and are not represented by a union.

Bridgestone Golf said non-production roles, including corporate and business operations, will be retained. Those positions are expected to relocate to a new, yet-to-be-determined site, while the company continues U.S. operations from its Georgia-based headquarters.

The filing indicates the shutdown will be permanent, marking a significant shift for the Covington facility, which has been a part of the local manufacturing sector. Employees impacted by the layoffs will not have bumping rights, meaning they cannot displace less senior workers in other roles within the company.

Local officials have not yet announced any response plans, but workforce assistance programs are typically activated following WARN notices to support displaced employees with job placement and retraining services.

The closure adds to ongoing concerns about manufacturing job stability across the region, particularly in areas outside metro Atlanta where such facilities often serve as key economic drivers.
