Illinois nears 300k total COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

IDPH reported over 4,000 new additional cases of the virus since Saturday, including 39 additional deaths this past weekend.

SPRINGFIELD –Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported Monday morning 1,709 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 13 additional confirmed deaths.

Among new deaths reported Monday included seven Cook County residents, including one 30-year-old man. IDPH reported over 4,000 new additional cases of the virus since Saturday, including 39 additional deaths this past weekend.

It comes at a time when over 25 states are reporting an increase in numbers of new COVID-19 cases, including Wisconsin. One COVID-19 model projects the US could see as many as 3,000 deaths per day by late December.

As of Monday, the state’s seven-day positivity rate sat at 3.7%, that’s up .2% since last Monday. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 289,639 cases, including 8,614 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.
