Illinois Department of Public Health officials announced on Wednesday 192 new deaths in Illinois, making Wednesday Illinois’ deadliest day. It’s the largest death announcement in the course of a 24-hour period.
“They’re not just numbers and statistics. These are real people and there are families and love ones who are suffering with each of them. Whether in their illness, or in their unfortunate passing.” Said IDPH Director Dr. Ezike during today’s briefing. “You may not know someone personally who was sick with COVID-19. You may not know someone personally who has passed on from COVID-19. But please know people of all ages are falling victim to this new virus. This is a real disease. This is a serious disease. It’s not a hoax and people need to take it very seriously.”
The doctor continued to plea with Illinois residents to stay home, practice social distancing and wear a mask when you must go out.
As of Wednesday, 3,792 Illinois residents have died from COVID-19. There have now been 84,698 cases in the state to date since the pandemic began.
