VILLA PARK, IL – A Maywood man has been arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine after fleeing from the police following an incident at the Walmart store on Route 83.
According to Villa Park police, officers responded to a disturbance call of a group of people fighting inside the Walmart store Tuesday. Upon arrival, they found Dionte Washington, 25, allegedly involved in the altercation. As the officers attempted to stop him, Washington fled the scene in his vehicle, southbound on Route 83.
After a brief pursuit, Washington was apprehended with the help of the Maywood Police Department. According to the authorities, Washington was allegedly in possession of more than a dozen pills containing methamphetamine when he was taken into custody.
DuPage County State’s Attorney, Robert Berlin, said, “this type of behavior must stop. Not doing so will only make matters worse and puts the public in great danger.” Berlin also commended the Villa Park and Maywood Police Departments for their coordinated efforts in apprehending Washington.
At a hearing, Judge Brian Telander set bail for Washington at $100,000 with 10% to apply. The defendant will next appear in court for arraignment on May 8, 2023.
