EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. – A 21-year-old Mariano’s grocery store employee was fatally shot in the storage room of the establishment early Thursday.

According to police reports, the shooting took place at the Mariano’s located at 2559 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park.  The victim, whose identity has yet to be disclosed by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, was shot during an altercation multiple times.

According to law enforcement officials, surveillance footage showed a man following the employee into a storage room prior to shooting. Evergreen Park Police Department issued a notice to assure residents, stating, “This morning we received reports of an active shooter at Mariano’s. It was a domestic situation and at this time there is no threat to the public. The area remains an active crime scene and we ask everyone to avoid the area.”
