Kankakee County sets single day record with 103 cases reported in single day

KANKAKEE – Kankakee County set a new single-day record Friday reporting 103 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, setting a new mark for single day cases. On Friday, Region 7’s seven-day positivity rating climbed for the 23rd day in a row to 10.5%.

Since October 1st, Kankakee County has seen 924 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, making up 25% of all cases locally since the pandemic began. As of October 30th, 82% of all infections for the month (761) remain active cases in Kankakee County.

The new case numbers come as four school districts in Bourbonnais, Momence, Herscher, and Watseka reported new cases among students and staff across the area in the last 24 hours. October has hit area youth hard.  According to data released by the Kankakee County Health Department, since October 1st, 163 school-aged children (0-19) have been infected with COVID-19, but trail ages 20-29 who lead all categories during the month with 197 infections.

Locally, ages 29 and under have made up 38.9% of all cases in Kankakee County this month.

No new deaths were announced in Kankakee Friday while 26 area residents remain hospitalized due to the virus.
