Project SUN presents a free Parent Café event tonight at 5pm in Kankakee

Project SUN, a local children’s behavioral health initiative, would like to invite parents and caregivers in Kankakee County to a free Parent Café event, hosted at the Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health tonight from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM. This Parent Café is the first of a monthly series, intended to regularly provide a space for parents to bring their questions and concerns, gain free training from local professionals, and connect with others who may share similar experiences.

Illinois dedicates $4.1 Million Dollars to fight Opioid Crisis

This year, Illinois saw the first decrease in five years in opioid overdose deaths. Despite this decrease, opioid overdose deaths among white residents in Illinois decreased 7% in 2018 while deaths among African Americans increased 9.1% and deaths among Latinos increased by 4.3%.

New Kankakee Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Requirements for 2023

The changes are required for one and two family dwellings and will be enforced in all smoke and carbon monoxide inspections. They include alarms in all sleeping rooms, outside of each separate sleeping area, and near fuel-burning appliances or fire places.

Illinois Schoolyard Habitat Action Grant Program awards over $20,000 to schools

Among the projects funded included butterfly gardens, pollinator gardens and various outdoor classrooms across the state. No grants were awarded to schools in Iroquois, Will or Kankakee County.

Man rescued from grain elevator in Minooka

A man trapped inside a grain elevator in Minooka was rescued on Thursday after being trapped up to his waist in grain for about four hours.
