St. Louis County Police Investigate Fatal Welfare Check Incident

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis County Police Department is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Officers from the South County Precinct were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Tapestry Drive at 2:14 p.m. to perform a welfare check.

Upon arrival, authorities stated that a male subject inside the residence began firing shots. In response, officers established a perimeter and requested the assistance of the St. Louis County Police Tactical Operations Unit and a crisis negotiator. As officers remained on the scene, the subject allegedly continued to fire numerous rounds at adjacent homes and in the direction of police personnel.

Tactical Operations Unit officers made repeated attempts to communicate with the subject, using a loudspeaker to issue verbal commands for him to exit the residence. Despite these efforts, the suspect continued firing his weapon. During the confrontation, a tactical officer fired into the home. After subsequent attempts to contact the subject failed, tactical officers breached the door and entered, discovering the male subject deceased with at least one gunshot wound. It remains unclear whether the fatal injury was caused by police gunfire or was self-inflicted.

The officer involved in the shooting is 44 years old and has 18 years of law enforcement experience. No police officers were injured during the incident. The investigation is currently ongoing, and the department has requested that anyone with information contact investigators at 636-529-8210.
