Researchers found chemical evidence that Ediacaran animals, living 635–540 million years ago, may have relied on sulfur processing microbes much like modern deep sea tube worms. The partnership detoxified toxic seafloor environments, suggesting microbial cooperation helped early multicellular life survive and diversify before the Cambrian explosion.
