Maryland Route 40 Traffic Interdiction Results Reported by Deputies

Washington County, MD – On September 3, 2026, members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Enforcement Unit and Patrol Division partnered with the Maryland State Police for a traffic interdiction initiative along the Route 40 corridor. Despite facing severe thunderstorms and other obstacles, participating personnel reportedly remained focused and continued enforcement throughout the initiative.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the department’s participation resulted in 11 traffic stops, 9 citations, 31 warnings, 1 controlled dangerous substance (CDS) arrest, and 3 K-9 deployments. The Maryland State Police reported 22 traffic stops, 4 citations, 24 warnings, 1 CDS possession arrest, 1 possession with intent to distribute (PWID) arrest involving 38.4 grams of cocaine, and 2 K-9 deployments.

Officials stated that joint operations like this are an important part of their continued efforts to promote roadway safety, address illegal drug activity, and keep Washington County communities safe. The Sheriff's Office expressed appreciation for the dedication of all personnel involved and for the continued partnership with the Maryland State Police.
