Mount Airy, MD – A 59 year old man was arrested Friday morning after multiple gunshots were allegedly fired at a Mount Airy residence, prompting a response from deputies, crisis negotiators and other law enforcement agencies.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff& 39;s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 6600 block of Wind Ridge Drive at approximately 3:34 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of shots fired. Numerous neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots.
Investigators said three people, including the homeowner and two guests, were initially inside the residence.
The homeowner allegedly obtained a firearm, prompting the two guests to flee the house. The guests then reported hearing multiple gunshots fired in an unknown direction, according to the sheriff& 39;s office.
No injuries were reported.
Deputies removed the two guests from the scene and identified the homeowner as 59 year old Kevin Lee Daughton, according to authorities.
Members of the Carroll County Crisis Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded as the incident continued. Authorities said Daughton was taken into custody without incident at 7:04 a.m., more than three hours after the initial call.
Daughton was charged with first degree assault, second degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment, according to the sheriff& 39;s office. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Major Crimes Unit detectives and forensic technicians remained at the property Friday as the investigation continued. Maryland State Police and the Westminster Police Department also assisted.
Authorities have not released additional details about what allegedly led to the incident or where the reported shots were directed.
