Raleigh, NC – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of central North Carolina, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and ice from 7 a.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday. Travel disruptions and hazardous road conditions are expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, northern and central parts of the state, including the Piedmont and Sandhills regions, will see snow and sleet accumulations ranging from up to an inch in the south to as much as three inches in the north. Ice accumulation could reach up to two-tenths of an inch, creating slippery conditions on roads, bridges, and sidewalks.
Officials warn that the most hazardous travel conditions will develop late Wednesday afternoon into the night, potentially affecting the evening commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check local road conditions via 511 before heading out.
Residents should prepare for possible power outages due to ice accumulation on trees and power lines. Those venturing outside should watch for icy surfaces to avoid falls.
This winter storm will taper off by Thursday morning, but lingering ice could still make for dangerous travel conditions. Authorities recommend staying indoors if possible and exercising caution when driving.
