Dubuque, IA – A winter weather advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday for parts of Iowa and Illinois, with snowfall and gusty winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, Dubuque County in Iowa and Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties in Illinois will see 1 to 3 inches of snow, with the heaviest accumulations north of Highway 20. The snow could fall at rates of 1 inch per hour late Friday afternoon into the evening, reducing visibility to below half a mile at times.
Winds from the southeast will gust between 25 to 35 mph, making roads slick and travel difficult, especially during the Friday evening commute. While snowfall will lighten after midnight, little additional accumulation is expected.
Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and check road conditions before traveling. Updates for Iowa roads are available at 511ia.org, while Illinois travelers can visit gettingaroundillinois.com.
